Under the Palms: A Mini-Mix
Yeah, I’m in one of those moods again. Doing all this research for studying abroad certainly doesn’t help. It’s not a matter of “running away” from things here—in fact, I’ve been having a fantastic winter break so far—it’s just this aching feeling, a good kind of ache, that pulls at my heartstrings whenever I hear songs like these. If anybody...

Top 40 Favorite Albums of the Year (10-1)
10) Tame Impala – Innerspeaker
On first listen, Tame Impala’s debut may seem more like a collection of obvious influences than a cohesive album. Take a listen to just one of their songs, and your mind is immediately whisked back to the psychedelic rock-and-roll golden age in the 60’s, or for most of us, whatever we imagine that was like. Elements of legendary bands like Cream, The Beatles, and...

Her goal? 1000 pounds. Oh, and icing on the cake is she’s from New Jersey. USA! USA!
I hate this country sometimes.

After just finishing a cognition class, a significant portion of which was devoted to the study of memory, this is completely mind-boggling. What’s even stranger is how new this is to the field….was it simply unreported before, or is this actually a new occurrence in the human mind? Incredible stuff.

Top 40 Favorite Albums of the Year (20-11)
I apologize for the lack of any sort of posts on here recently. I’ve been savoring the hell out of my time off so far, spending most of my free time with friends or catching up on episodes of Mad Men. I know, I know, it’s a tough life. Anyways, without further ado, here is the next segment of my end of the year list, chock full of wonderful albums that all of you should promptly check...

Check it: a zombified homemade music video for The National’s “Conversation 16”, an instant favorite off of their newest album, High Violet. If you’ve already heard the song before, you’ll know that the video is quite appropriate. It’s filmed in black and white to boot! Sit back and enjoy.
I happened to place Violet rather far up in my list for favorite...

Top 40 Favorite Albums of the Year (30-21)
Happy Friday, everyone. I have here the next segment in my favorite albums of the year, the majority of which I enjoyed about equally. No photos this time; with the way this blog is laid out, it just makes the post unnecessarily long. I hope you get your hands on some of these albums somehow, because there are some true gems to be found here. Enjoy your evenings!

Top 40 Favorite Albums of the Year (40-31)
Good evening, ladies and gents. I hope all of your respective finals weeks/vacations are going smoothly. We’re moving into the icy grip of December up here in New England right now, so the holiday cheer will undoubtedly arrive soon as well. What says holiday cheer (on Tumblr/the internet) like end of the year lists for media-related things? That’s right kids, I’m doing a list...

Midnight Unwind Mini-Mix
I hope all of you out there still taking your finals are still surviving. To all of you who are already out? I envy you. But, this mix is not for your kind; it’s for those of us still holed up in our room or private corners of the library, and would really like a bubble bath and a neck massage. Alright, maybe not that specific…..

My Top Five Album Covers of 2010
There’s been so much good music falling into my lap this year that it’s nearly impossible to keep track of it all. I also noticed a lot of really startling/eye-catching artwork adorning the covers of many of those releases. Here are my top five of the bunch, in no particular order: Future Islands - In Evening Air Menomena - Mines Spoon - Transference Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up...
